I don't know about acetaminophen but neither nicotine nor alcohol is dangerous when consumed in moderation.
Heroin, fentanyl etc. are illegal but that doesn't mean they don't have a multi-billion dollar industry behind them. I expect that the profit margin on heroin is a lot bigger than that on beer.
Alcohol was wildly popular for 1000s of years without any advertising to promote it.
Thanks for this, Chris. I had totally missed this was even happening here. Although I have to say that perhaps having some nonsense about alcohol attached to the published nonsense about nutrition might have been a net positive (casting more doubt on the rest of it).
Anti-alcohol academics, activists, et al, like their anti-smoking predecessors are totally unscrupulous when it comes to science or the truth in general. What is difficult to understand, however, is what motivates them so strongly. Certainly power & control are factors, but I do not believe there is any simple answer to what explains their zealotry.
Misguided egotistical dogoodery and perhaps unfortunate personal experience of a casualty of this generally life-enhancing enjoyment of the great majority would be two more contributors.
Alcohol is 100% a drug, like nicotine, like...acetaminophen. All are legal, and consumed in moderation, detrimental to your health, but not fatal. Consumed "irresponsibly", all can harm your health and in extreme use...kill you. Heroin, fentanyl are illegal drugs that everyone knows can greatly harm and kill you. The difference is, alcohol is LEGAL, and its use is the product of a billion-dollar industry that makes money when you consume it. Advertising and marketing are the commercial worlds information / influence / psychological operations to prep the environment (YOU) to convince you to use their product so they can make money. So, they say it's "okay" to use it "responsibly", create massive advertising (gaslighting) campaigns to show what you're missing if you don't drink, and make lots of money when you do. It is in THEIR INTEREST that you drink. It is NOT in their interest that you NOT drink. OBTW, they pay for most of the "studies" that push the "acceptable" doses for men and women. Just saying.
Your post is written like an ACTIVIST. No credibility to your argument when most of the legislation and advise dished out around alcohol contradicts the science.

Very few of the studies are funded by the alcohol industry: https://velvetgloveironfist.blogspot.com/2023/12/alcohol-research-who-funds-it.html

Can we hope on day to see a similar demolition of the U.K. alcohol charlatans?
This is brilliant. Let’s hope it leads to legal action that sets a precedent and puts an end to activist studies peddling this kind of BS.
Try listening to Dr. Andrew Huberman for neuroscience. You do you. OBTW, had five decades of alcohol use disorder behind me. Don't be me. Just sayin'.
