I read that Sitwell article and shivered at the jolly illiberalism of it all. I don’t understand if these people don’t realise they are authoritarian, patronising and elitist. Or simply don’t care.

Remember the school that went full Jamie Oliver some years back, with a very limited choice of “healthy” foods? The loving parents turned up at the school gates to hand over bundles of takeaway fish and chips to their little darlings. But of course we’re not supposed to attribute an unhealthy diet to the wants of the individual, it’s all down to the evil food companies…..

Of course. It’s a dehumanising view. Sitwell, Oliver and Van Tullekan see us all as silly, thoughtless children who must be compelled to eat our greens. They use the ‘greater good’, in this case a fantasy view of the NHS, to justify their authoritarianism.

Imagine for a moment the conviction that it is your moral duty to tell other adults what they should be allowed to have for dinner. I find it unfathomable.

Has he met any kids? They would just find a way round these stupid measures, by stuffing themselves on the way to or from school. Blank slatism just won’t die, everyone thinks they can mould kids into accepting their idea of how they should behave….
